Today our 4th graders had an exciting visit during Specials from a basketball player at Minnesota State University Moorhead!
Students loved hearing about what it’s like to be a college student-athlete and the hard work, dedication, and teamwork it takes to compete at the next level. They asked thoughtful questions and were so engaged throughout the visit!

It’s time for another year of Penny Wars! 🪙
Penny Wars is a yearly Garfield tradition where grades face off to see who can raise the most money for the charity chosen by our Lighthouse members. This year, all money raised will be donated to the Humane Society to help feed and shelter animals in need.
The rules are simple:
• Bring in pennies to earn points for your grade (1 penny = 1 point).
• Bring in silver coins (nickels, dimes, or quarters) to take away points from the grade of your choice.
• Dollar bills are also accepted and are worth their value × 100 (e.g., $1 = 100 points, $5 = 500 points, $10 = 1,000 points etc.).
Penny Wars will run during the week of 1/26–1/30.

🦋 A Special Visit for Our Kindergarten Friends! 🐢🐍
Today, our kindergarten students had an exciting hands-on learning experience thanks to a visit from the Butterfly House! Our little learners met some amazing animal guests, including a snake, a turtle, and even a hissing cockroach!
The students asked great questions, showed lots of curiosity, and did a wonderful job listening and learning about these fascinating creatures. What a fun way to bring science to life!
Thank you to the Butterfly House for such a memorable visit! 💛

Friday, January 23, 2026, will be a Remote Learning Day in the Sioux Falls School District!
iPads and Chromebooks were sent home with each student earlier today. We will not have in-person learning in the schools, but students are expected to connect to their Canvas account from home for assignments and learning resources. They have practiced this at school and know what is expected of them.

Today, teachers are sending devices home with students just in case we need to move to remote learning tomorrow.
At this time, school is NOT canceled and we are still planning for an in-person school day. The devices are being sent home simply as a precaution so everyone is prepared if plans change.
We kindly ask that families remember these devices are for learning and educational purposes only.
Thank you so much for your understanding, flexibility, and continued support. We truly appreciate our school community!
